Garpen

Garpen is an old stone cabin next to the river below the dam at Finsevatn (see map), originally built as a hydro-power station and later served  as the first biology field station at Finse from 1965 to 1972. It has been renovated and is available for recreational use for employees and students at  the faculties of mathematics and natural sciences at UiO/UiB.

The cabin is suitable for 4-6 people and has electric heating, a wood stove, a kitchen with essential utensils, and an incinerating (combustion) toilet. Water must be taken from the river and boiled before drinking (or bring your own drinking water from the train station or the research station when it is open). Bring sleeping bags. The cabin must be left clean and ready for the next users.

The nightly charge is 300 NOK for rent of the entire cabin. You may pay online (please pay immediately after your stay). Check availability in the calendar below before making a booking. We frequently use the cabin as extra accommodation for the research station in July and August, so it may not be possible to book the cabin long in advance for these months. Note that it is not possible to book the cabin more than 6 months in advance.

To book the cabin, or if you have any questions, please contact the center manager, Jens Ådne Rekkedal Haga.

Cancellations: Please email the station manager Jens Ådne Rekkedal Haga as soon as possible if you need to cancel your reservation. For cancellations with shorter notice than 14 days prior to arrival, we will charge a 50% cancellation fee (150 NOK per night). Cancellations due to severe weather (you may ask us for advice) are free of charge. Please pay immediately after your stay as we are not able to refund payments from the university payment system.

Pay for using Garpen with VISA or MasterCard (Please pay immediately after your stay as we are not able to refund payments from the university payment system).
